Ajit Kanitkar is a consultant for the Tata Education and Development Trust. Mr. Kanitkar is also a member of the research team at the Centre for Development and Research in Pune. From 1992 to 1995 he taught at the Institute of Rural Development and Cooperation. Prior to working for Tata Trust, he served as a Program Officer for The Ford Foundation for 8 years and the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation for 3 years.

Dr. Lalitesh Katragadda

Founder, Swaja Labs, Indihood

Dr. Lalitesh Katragadda is a pioneer in crowdsourcing and building products for the underserved. As Google’s Country Head of India Products, he co-founded Google India and worked on Google Finance, Hindi Transliteration, and Map programs. Mr. Katragadda wants to ensure that barriers such as language do not prevent new users from getting online.

His creation, Google Map Maker, tripled the world’s digital maps corpus, mapping 2 billion people in 187 countries. The United Nations and various aid agencies have used these user-generated maps to assist and rescue millions. Mr. Katragadda is now focused on India’s nation building and has founded Swaja Labs, Indihood, and works as an architect of Digital India’s Open API and AP Government’s Fiber Grid.

I have been coming to Development Dialogue mainly to learn, more than anything else. There is a hope that when we build these information systems for the next billion, we might pilot them in the Sandbox so that we can figure out what it takes to build systems that the mainstream of the country, people who are barely literate, can use

Ramji Raghavan

Founder and Chairman, Agastya International Foundation

Ramji Raghavan leads the world’s largest hands-on mobile science education program for economically disadvantaged children and rural teachers. Prior to Agastya, Mr. Raghavan worked as a senior executive in financial service organizations in the USA, Europe, the Caribbean and Asia.

Mr Raghavan was a member of the Prime Minister’s National Knowledge Commission, and the Karnataka State Innovation Council and Executive Council member of the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum. In 2009, Mr. Raghavan was elected a Senior Fellow by Ashoka and in 2011 he was conferred the People’s Hero Award by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII).
